how to play hive mind

Hive mind is a free daily word game. Seven letters sit in a honeycomb. Every word uses the middle letter, and letters can be used more than once. Four-letter words are worth 1 point. Longer words are a point per letter. A word that uses all seven letters is a full set and scores 7 extra points. Your rank is how much of the day's maximum you found.

  1. Tap the hexes or type to build a word, then press enter.
  2. Every word has to use the middle letter. Other hive letters can repeat.
  3. A full set uses all seven letters and adds a bonus.
  4. Ranks climb from quiet up to the whole hive as your points get closer to the day's maximum.
  5. Today's words are saved as you go, so you can close the tab and come back later in the day.
  6. Find every word, or press finish when you're done. The results list every word, with the ones you missed dimmed.

Keyboard: Type letters, Backspace deletes, Enter submits, Space shuffles, and Esc goes back to the menu.

tips

  • Four-letter words are worth one point. Look for longer words and full sets.
  • Shuffle the outer letters when a pattern has you stuck.
  • The middle letter can show up more than once in the same word.
  • There's never an s in the hive, so plurals of other words won't pad your score. Look for -ed, -er and -ing endings instead.

faq

Is there a new hive every day?

Yes, at midnight in your time zone. Everyone gets the same seven letters, and the list covers a year before it repeats.

Can I play more than once a day?

Yes. Solo mode deals other hives, and it skips today's hive and the next month of dailies.

Where do the words come from?

Answers are common words from SCOWL 2020.12.07 (size 35 or below, so everyday words, no rare ones) that also appear in the ENABLE word list (public domain). SCOWL is Copyright 2000-2018 by Kevin Atkinson, used under its permissive license. Proper nouns, crude words and the SCOWL profanity lists are left out.

How does the rank work?

Your points are compared with the total of every valid word that day. The names run quiet, stirring, warming, humming, busy, loud, swarming, hive mind, and the whole hive.

How does sharing work?

Your share shows your points, not the words, so a friend can play the same hive.
