how to play shirt name
Shirt name is a free daily word game. You have six tries to guess the name on the back of a footballer's shirt. Each guess shows which letters are in the right spot and which are just in the name, and the end shows the player's whole career.
- The hint tells you how many letters, from four to eight.
- Type a surname of that length and press enter. Any one-word footballer surname counts as a guess.
- A green tile is the right letter in the right spot. A yellow tile, with a dot, is in the name but somewhere else. A dim tile is not in the name.
- After six tries, or a solve, you get the player and the career table: years, clubs, appearances and goals, then the national team.
Keyboard: Type on your keyboard. Enter guesses, Backspace deletes, and Esc goes back to the menu.
tips
- Accents are folded away, so ozil covers özil and mansiz covers mansız.
- It is the name fans know: neymar, not his passport surname. Two-word names stay on the bench.
- A repeated letter only lights up as many times as the name actually has.
- Easy freeplay sticks to household names. Hard digs into players with a long career and less fame.
faq
Is there a new name every day?
Yes. Everyone gets the same name that day, at normal difficulty, and past dailies are there to replay. Freeplay skips the next month of dailies.
Which names count?
Guesses have to be surnames from the football pool, same length. Anything else shakes and says it isn't a name we know. The answers are well-known players with a real senior career.
How is it scored?
By how many tries it took, from one to six. A miss is marked x. The share is the rows of tiles, never the name.
Where do the players come from?
Player facts come from Wikidata (CC0). Shirt name is not affiliated with any league, club or player.
